“I believe in teaching to the whole child, which for the preschool age means focusing on social emotional growth. Children in my class learn to self-regulate, handle frustration, become comfortable with making mistakes, and how to empathize.”

The words “Be Kind” in large red letters can be seen from everywhere in the classroom of Pre-K teacher Olugbala Williams, who has taught in the Lower School since 1995. He also serves as Lower School diversity coordinator. “I come from a long line of political activists,” Olugbala says. “I strive to make this world, and in the microcosm, this school, more equitable.” Olugbala organizes and leads the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Assembly and Black History Month Assembly at the Lower School. He especially admires the work of James Baldwin, saying “his insights about race and racism remain pertinent and necessary today.”
