“Creating art is a unique and powerful means of engaging in social and emotional dialogue. It fosters inner awareness and the capacity to empathize with others, a skill that surpasses the act of art-making itself.”
Andre Batista joined Poly’s Visual Arts Department as a Middle School art teacher in 2024. After earning his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from F.I.T. in 2017, Andre has been leading art classes with a distinctive approach. He encourages students to collaborate, reflect, share, and develop the skills to be socially and emotionally engaged with themselves and others. His curriculum, which combines art therapy-inspired methods with technical design skills, creates an inclusive and dynamic studio environment suitable for all skill levels.
Andre has diverse hands-on experience in the art and design world, ranging from working as a studio assistant for a globally renowned artist to choreographing models and designing sets for luxury fashion shows. He also has featured work in numerous art exhibitions around NYC. He brings these rich experiences into the classroom to inspire students about the diverse pathways available in the arts and the particular skills needed to begin the journey. When he’s not teaching, Andre is dedicated to his own art projects and collaborating with his creative community.
