Student-Athletes Win Big in Fall 2022

We are delighted to report it was another amazing championship season for Poly’s stellar fall athletics program.

“I could tell when we started preseason back in August that this fall season was going to be a great one,” said Poly Athletic Director Kym Carter. “The dedication all of our athletes showed, by once again cutting their summertime short to tryout and practice, really showed throughout the season. Hard work, that’s the Poly way!”

Girls’ Varsity Soccer

First season Poly Soccer Coach Tara Heatley led Girls’ Varsity Soccer to a win over Packer for the NYSAIS championship. Afterward she said, “From the first play last night you could see how much our team wanted the win. We knew a goal was going to come. It was just a matter of being patient and disciplined on defense and finishing our opportunities up top. It was a great ending for such a special group and well deserved.”

Girls’ Varsity Volleyball

Coach Ben Diaz guided the Girls’ Varsity Volleyball team to a win over Avenues for its fourth NYSAIS Championship title under his leadership. “We as coaches couldn’t be more proud of our team!” Diaz said. “We spent time watching film, practicing things we needed work on, and prepared ourselves mentally for the moment. The team faced a lot of adversity this season and overcame it. They represented Poly at the highest level and no one deserved this championship more than them!”

Football

Poly’s Varsity Football Blue Devils are the 2022 Metropolitan Independent Football League Champions after defeating Rye Country Day School. Thank you to our athletes, coaches, trainers, officials, teachers, students, families, and fans for their contribution to this amazing season!

First-year Varsity FootballHead Coach, Jerell Jones couldn’t be happier with the win. “It’s always a great feeling to win a championship,” he said. “I am really happy for all of the members of the team and their families. It is not an easy task to win, and to finish a season undefeated. I couldn’t be more proud. I am especially happy for all of the seniors, and I commend them for all of their hard work and leadership throughout the season.”

Boys’ Varsity Soccer

Our Boys’ Varsity Soccer team made a noble effort on the pitch. They advanced to the NYSAIS semifinals, but fell to Fieldston. “Boys Soccer finished the season with an 11W-6L-1D record, coming up just short in both the league and NYSAIS postseason tournament, said Coach Matthew Pavlich. “Despite not finishing with any trophies, the boys played entertaining soccer, and worked together to elevate the standards of our program for future years.”

Girls’ Varsity Tennis

The Poly Girls’ Varsity Tennis Team followed up last season’s successes with a second straight run to the Ivy Finals finishing with a 9-3 overall season record.  This year they added a NYSAIS Singles Finals showing. The team qualified for NYSAIS in both the singles and doubles draws. Holyn Karp ‘25, 1S, and Mia Edwards ‘23, 2S, were unanimous First Team All-Ivy selections. Karp, unbeaten at first singles in Ivy League play, was the first overall selection of all players in the league and secured second place in the 2022 NYSAIS Singles Tennis match.

Girls’ Varsity Cross Country

Izzy Leyton ’25 in fourth place and Zoe McCullough ’26 in eighth led our Girls’ Cross Country team at the NYSAIS 2022 Cross Country Tournament.  Poly Prep is the only school with two runners in the top ten.  Layton qualified for NY Federation Championship 2022 and will be representing Poly Prep on November 19 in Wappinger Falls. We’re rooting for you!

Congratulations to all the student-athletes and their coaches and trainers. We are so proud of you.
