There’s something for everyone. The introduction of Poly PM this fall was a hit with both Middle School parents and students. The Poly PM program offers students the opportunity to extend their day on the Dyker Heights campus and provides a home base for supervised study, homework, as well as activities for students to explore interests including enrichment in the arts, athletics, and academics.
One parent shared that her child “enjoys the physical activity and likes getting to try out a variety of sports, some of which she had never tried before. She also appreciated having some time to get homework done and getting to be with some of her friends. Thank you!”
This year, some new offerings such as Multisports and Young Writers were added to already existing Middle School after-school activities Young Dancers and Young Singers under the umbrella of the new Middle School Poly PM program. In Multisports, students compete in a variety of sports and no prior experience is necessary.
Registration is required to attend Poly PM. Spring Poly PM programs will be available for pre-registration in March 2022. Current families may visit the After School Resources section of the Parent Portal for more information on registration, activities, schedule, and more.
During the inaugural first trimester, Grades 5 & 6 activities included: Supervised Study, Multisports, Young Dancers, Soccer, Young Singers, Young Actors, and Young Writers. For Grades 7 & 8: Supervised Study, Athletics, Tower Dancers, Speech and Debate, Grades 7 & 8 Play, and Boys’ Tackle Football Practice.
A happy parent said about their child’s experience, “Having the opportunity to do extracurricular activities after school, which are thematic to other programs at Poly, is a great opportunity.” Another added that Poly PM is a “valuable program that is fun and encourages physical activity.”
Winter Trimester offerings were announced in mid-November and began after Thanksgiving. Some activities for Grades 7 and 8 do not require pre-registration; students sign up for these activities directly with their coach or advisor and no fees are associated. The Winter offerings include Multisports, Young Dancers, Tower Dancers, Grades 5 & 6 Basketball, Young Singers, Bookmaking, Speech and Debate, Grades 7 & 8 Athletic Competition (Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball), Grades 6, 7 & 8 Musical, Conservatory, Spectacular STEM, and After School Supervision.
Students look forward to these Poly PM days, reported their parents. “L. enjoys Young Actors!” Another added, “S. has really enjoyed the Multisport program. Thank you so much for offering it! I think it’s so great to provide the opportunity for kids to socialize on campus, have access to extra time to complete homework, and to make them really feel part of the campus and all it has to offer. Even more sports initiatives would be great!”
