Program Overview

Poly Boys’ Track and Field is a multifaceted program that boasts a world-class roster of coaches to inspire the student-athletes to reach their maximum potential. The team competes in an array of competitions in the NYC/New Jersey areas. Coach Richard James, the Director of Sports Performance is also the sprints and relays coach. Coach James is a world champion and also a member of the Jamaican 4×400 relay team in the 2004 Olympics.    Coach Daniel Winn is the distance coach and is a former member of the prestigious University of Oregon track program. Throwing Coach Jase Franklyn was an ECAC champion in the shot put and the hammer throw at Lehman College and coached at Division I LIU Brooklyn before joining Poly. Coach Rachel Olinyk, Poly’s hurdles and jumps coach, is a former heptathlete and professional volleyball player. The team competes at the Armory Track & Field Center and the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex during the indoor winter season, while the spring outdoor season sees the Blue Devils hosting Ivy Prep League rivals at the Steinberg Athletic Center six-lane track.

Track and Field Facilities

Poly student-athletes train and compete on the blue and gray, six-lane track. The Track and Field teams at Poly  also have jumping and throwing facilities and the terrain of the campus itself is utilized for distance running and endurance training.

Quinn Lansill ’20

During his career at Poly, Quinn established himself as an athlete at the national level. His work ethic has led him to become #1 in the U.S. in the pentathlon after a victory in the 2020 Ocean Breeze Invitational. Quinn finished his indoor season #3 in the nation, making him an All-American and is recognized as one of the best all-around athletes in the country. Quinn will continue his athletic and academic career at the University of Wisconsin

John-Michael Chin ’20

John-Michael has been an asset to the jumping and relay teams. He has bettered his distances in the long jump and triple jump by almost four feet. He has also competed on the 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams. This indoor season he qualified for NY State championships for the first time and finished 27th overall.
