Children enjoy music as part of their day beginning with shared songs in Nursery. In the music room, Pre-K sits in a circle taking turns playing rhythm instruments in time to multicultural and multilingual songs, while older students eagerly await afternoon instrumental instruction. Each winter and spring, Grades 3 and 4 delightedly perform for family and friends; students have also performed at Carnegie Hall.
In Middle School, the Winter and Spring Concerts are the venues for Young Singers, Chorus, Middle School Band, and String Ensemble—to showcase their musical literacy and vocals. Students perform a varied repertoire: folk music, classical, musical theater, and contemporary works.
In Upper School, students have even more musical options: Concert Band for woodwind, brass, and percussion instrumentalists; Concert Choir for vocalists; the always-swinging Jazz Band; and Blue Notes and A Cappella, whose voices make all the music. Every other year, the Concert Choir travels internationally, most recently to Cuba and Berlin, to perform at festivals.
